CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 12th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team secured the number-one seed in the upcoming SUNYAC playoffs with a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon at Holloway Field in windy and rainy conditions. The Red Dragons next host the winner of the Buffalo St. and New Paltz first-round game on Wednesday, Nov. 1 in the conference semifinals.

Mateo Marra (Ossining) scored a pair of goals for Cortland (13-2-2, 7-1-1 SUNYAC). Junior
Matt Shultz (Oneonta) recorded a goal and two assists. Sophomore goalie
Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) turned aside five shots.
Graduate student Kieran Gilroy (North Bellmore/W.C. Mepham) tallied the goal for the Lakers (2-6-7, 1-4-4 SUNYAC). Sophomore Benjamin Brooks (Poughquag/Arlington) assisted on the goal. Senior goalie Finnian Costello (Beacon) registered six saves for Oswego.
After a scoreless first half that featured 18 shots and 17 fouls, Shultz put Cortland on the scoreboard in the 46th minute with his 10th goal of the season, scoring on a loose ball in front. Gilroy tied the game in the 57th minute, taking a pass that cut through Cortland's defense and slipping a shot into the lower right corner.
Three minutes later Marra struck for the game winner when he cut inside the Laker defense and buried a shot into the upper left corner of the goal. Marra then added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute, scoring on a header into the upper right off a cross by Shultz for the 3-1 final.
