CORTLAND, N.Y. –
Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) recorded a double-double with 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and was one of four Cortland double-figure scorers as the Red Dragons beat Potsdam, 81-63, in a SUNYAC men's basketball contest at Corey Gymnasium.
Lubin made 7-of-10 shots from the field for Cortland, which won its fourth straight game to improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Jaylen Warmack (Utica/Utica Notre Dame) was 7-for-13 from the field and finished with 14 points and five assists.
Pierre Hajjar (Brussels, Belgium/Victory Rock Prep) made three 3-pointers and ended with 13 points and
Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) registered 11 points and six rebounds.
Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by the Sea) added nine points, five rebounds and three steals.
Potsdam (1-6, 0-2 SUNYAC) featured three double-figure scorers, led by Parker Kelly with 18 points and eight rebounds. Isaac Oduro Jr. scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and Jeff Williamson scored 10 points and added three steals.
Cortland shot 48 percent overall and 33 percent (9-for-27) from 3-point distance. Potsdam ended at 41 percent overall and 30 percent (7-for-23) from deep. Cortland held a 21-6 advantage in points off of turnovers as the Bears lost the ball 14 times compared to nine for the Red Dragons.
Cortland trailed 18-17 with eight minutes left in the first half before scoring 12 straight points, starting with two Hajjar 3-pointers. The Red Dragons led 40-32 at halftime. Warmack scored 28 seconds into the second half and the Red Dragons led by double figures the entire second half. Potsdam did cut a 70-51 deficit with four minutes left to 70-60 with 2:46 remaining, but Coston scored Cortland's next four points to make it 74-61 with 1:23 left.
Cortland is idle until hosting Utica University in a non-league game on Dec. 16 at 2 p.m.
