OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego shot 56 percent from the field, including 13-of-27 (48 percent) from 3-point range, and the nationally 11th-ranked Lakers defeated visiting Cortland, 102-62, in a SUNYAC men's basketball contest.
With the loss, Cortland is now 16-7 overall and is tied for third place in the conference with Oneonta with an 11-5 league record. Oswego won its 17th straight game to up its record to 21-2 overall and 15-1 in the conference.
Kaleb Cook led five Oswego double-figure scorers with 16 points and also finished with three assists and three steals. He was 3-for-7 from the arc. Devin Green scored 14 points, dished out three assists and led the team with eight rebounds. Jeremiah Sparks also scored 14 points and added three assists, Ahkee Anderson tallied 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and led the Lakers with eight assists, and Sean Edwards finished with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) led Cortland with 24 points and 13 rebounds. He was 7-of-11 from the field and 8-for-8 from the foul line.
Cam Williams (Rome/Rome Free Academy) ended with 11 points and four rebounds.
Cal Shifflet (Buffalo/Williamsville East) tied his career high with nine points and
Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) also tallied nine points.
Danny Linehan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) led the Red Dragons with three assists.
Cortland tied the game at 10-10 on a Lubin 3-pointer with 12:15 left in the first half, but Oswego scored the next nine point to go up 19-10 with 9:19 remaining. The Lakers eventually extended their lead to as many as 29 points in the opening half and led 54-28 at halftime. Cortland was within 23 points at 56-33 with 18:53 left before Oswego rattled off 15 straight points, including six by Cook and five by Green, to take a 38-point lead.
Oswego held Cortland to 31 percent shooting overall and 27 percent (9-of-33) from 3-point range. Cortland shot 15-of-18 from the foul line compared to Oswego's 15-of-24 accuracy.
Cortland closes out the regular season next weekend with league games Friday at Buffalo State and Saturday at Geneseo.
