Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Cortland Skates Past Buffalo St., 3-1

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Three different players scored goals as the Cortland men's hockey team defeated Buffalo St., 3-1, Saturday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 16-8-1 overall and 11-5 in the conference and earned the fourth seed in the upcoming league playoffs. Cortland hosts the Bengals (13-12, 8-8) in a quarterfinal game next Wednesday.

Freshman Colby Seitz (Eden/Corpus Christi IceRays) recorded a goal and an assist. Senior Matt Jahn (Glen Allen, VA/Charlotte Rush) and junior Nate Berke (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) each netted goals for Cortland, while seniors Nick Grupp (Depew/Brantford 99ers) and Cameron Knowlton (Kenai, AK/Charlotte Rush) and sophomores Anthony Bernardo (Hauppauge/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) and Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) collected one assist. Senior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) made 14 saves.

Junior Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia/Springfield Jr. Blues) scored Buffalo St.'s goal. Sophomore Joe Glamos (Baldwinsville/New Jersey Titans) assisted on the goal. Freshman goalie Liam Gross (Fort Washington, PA/New Jersey Rockets) registered 40 saves.

Kozyrev gave the Bengals the lead 31 seconds before the end of the first period on the power play. Glamos forced a turnover behind Cortland's end line and fed a pass in front where Kozyrev scored from the slot.

Seitz tied the game at 12:30 of the second period on the man advantage, with a deflection of Grupp's slap shot from the point through traffic. Jahn netted the game winner when he knocked in a loose puck at the 17:43 mark of the period. Berke added an insurance goal with 2:34 remaining in regulation, finishing off a 2-on-1 with Seitz.

Buffalo St. pulled Gross for an extra skater with under a minute to play, but the teams combined to take four roughing penalties 13 seconds later forcing Gross back into his net for the remainder of the game as Cortland sealed the 3-1 win.
