Cortland Falls to Brockport, 65-53, in SUNYAC Semifinals

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Jahidi Wallace scored 18 of his game-high 19 points in the second half as second-seeded Brockport defeated third-seeded Cortland, 65-53, in the SUNYAC men's basketball tournament semifinals at Oswego's Max Ziel Gymnasium. 
 
Brockport improved to 20-6 with the victory and will play in the championship game Saturday at 4 p.m. versus top-seeded Oswego. Cortland fell to 19-8 with the loss. 
 
Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) led Cortland with 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. He registered his 19th double-double of the season. Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) finished with 14 points and six rebounds. 
 
Wallace ended the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds and was one of four double-figure scorers for the Golden Eagles. Tony Arnold and Mekhi Beckett each tallied 14 points and David Grady III had 10 points and nine rebounds. 
 
Cortland struggled with its shooting touch throughout the contest, finishing the game at just 27 percent from the field overall and 10 percent (3-for-30) from 3-point range. Brockport shot 29 percent from the floor in the first half but hit 56 percent of its shots in the second half to finish the game at 41 percent. 
 
Brockport never trailed in the contest. The Golden Eagles led 22-17 at halftime, but Cortland hit its first two shots after the break and trailed by only one, 22-21. Brockport, however, went on a 12-0 run at that point and led 34-21 after two Arnold free throws about four minutes into the half. Brockport's largest lead was 17 points on two occasions, the last at 46-29 with 10:13 left. 
 
Cortland hung around and eventually drew within eight at 57-49 on two Coston free throws with 3:34 left. Beckett, however, hit a 3-pointer on Brockport's next possession and the Golden Eagles led by double figures the remainder of the contest.
