PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Mattie Norton scored a power-play goal with 5:54 left in regulation to lift the nationally fourth-ranked Plattsburgh women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind win versus Cortland Saturday afternoon in NEWHL action. The Red Dragons dropped to 15-6 overall and 10-4 in the conference. The Cardinals won their 12th straight game in improving to 20-2 and 14-1.
Freshman
Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) scored Cortland's goal, her ninth of the season. Freshman
Kayla Persinger (Youngstown/Newark Ironbound) assisted on the goal. Sophomore goalie
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) stopped 42 shots.
Julia Masotta also netted a goal for Plattsburgh. Kendall Wasik, Ciara Wall, Sierra Benjamin and Sara Krauseneck picked up assists. Goalie Ashley Davis made 21 saves.
Aneborn gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 11:12 of the first period before Masotta tied the game 2:05 before the end of the period. Goergen made 22 of her saves in the opening 20 minutes to keep it a 1-1 score.
After a scoreless second period, Norton netted the game winner less than a minute after the Cardinals went on the power play. The Red Dragons pulled Goergen for an extra skater with just over a minute to play but couldn't net the equalizer as Plattsburgh held on for the 2-1 victory.
