Yacavone Reaches 200 Career Points in Setback at Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-2 first-quarter lead and never trailed in defeating nationally 16th-ranked Cortland, 18-12, Saturday afternoon in the SUNYAC opener for both teams.

Cortland senior Dante Yacavone (Homer) registered a goal and an assist in the setback to become the 12th player in program history to reach 200 career points. Yacavone has recorded 117 goals and 83 assists and picked up his 200th career point with an assist on a man-up goal by senior Troy Morris (Long Beach) late in the third period.

Morris led the Red Dragons (5-2, 0-1) with three goals. Senior Austin Palmer (Hamburg/St. Francis) tallied two goals and one assist, and senior Tyler Starrett (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) also netted two goals. Sophomore Ryan Smith (East Islip) and sophomore Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) each recorded a goal and an assist, sophomores Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Klay Stuver (Fairport) netted a goal and senior Jason Chiodo (Hamburg) picked up an assist.

Junior goalie Travis Wagner (Penfield) made 15 saves in 56:32 before giving way to senior Matt Stento (Bethlehem), who did not stop a shot over the final 3:28. Sophomore Owen Neubauer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won 11 faceoffs. Junior Travis Moehringer (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers, senior Dominick Natale (Homer) collected four ground balls and Yacavone and Neubauer each picked up three ground balls.

Robert Boneillo led Geneseo (6-3, 1-0) with four goals and two assists. Brady Sullivan tallied four goals and an assist, Jimmy Atkinson registered three goals and an assist, Christian Marcello contributed two goals and an assist and five others each added a goal.

Goalie Mark Pav registered 16 saves and collected four ground balls. BB Syrop won 21-of-33 faceoffs and secured 13 ground balls. Trevor Bollinger scooped up five ground balls.
