CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 20th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team scored 16 consecutive goals spanning the first to third quarters in defeating Potsdam, 23-6, Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Bears dropped to 2-5 and 0-2.
 
Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) led Cortland with four goals and one assist and Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) scored three goals and shared the team lead with four assists. Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) totaled three goals and two assists and Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) registered three goals and one assist. Hoeffner also won 13 draw controls.
 
Also for the Red Dragons, Mackenzie Beck (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) and Emma Dempsey (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) scored three goals apiece. Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) recorded two goals and three assists, Nicole Iapoce (Highland) finished with a goal and an assist and Madelyn Czyz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) matched Janis with four assists. Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) made six saves and picked up four ground balls.
 
Anita Reitano led Potsdam with two goals and one assist. Jane Olszewski started in goal and made four saves in the first half. Olivia Minarich recorded three saves in the second half.
 
Potsdam led 1-0 just over a minute into the game and was within a goal at 4-3 on a Reitano goal with 6:48 left in the first quarter. Cortland, however, began its 16-goal run with two goals in the final 4:23 of the first to take a 6-3 lead and scored nine goals in the second to lead 15-3 at intermission.
