#13 Cortland Runs Past Nazareth, 18-5

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 13th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team raced out to a 15-2 lead at the half in earning an 18-5 victory versus Nazareth Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 2-1, while the Golden Flyers dropped to 1-3.

Sophomore Gabby Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) led the Cortland offense with five goals. Junior Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) tallied three goals and three assists, and senior Rachel Janie (Laurel/Mattituck) recorded a career-high six points on two goals and four assists.

Graduate students Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) and Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), junior Danielle Regan (Brewster) and freshman Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) each scored two goals for the Red Dragons. Graduate student Hanna Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and sophomore Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) contributed one assist apiece, and freshman Katie Kratochvill (Setauket/Ward Melville) registered her first career point with an assist.

Freshman goalie Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) made three saves for Cortland. Hoeffner won nine draw controls and caused two turnovers, graduate student Kayla Sweeney (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scooped up three ground balls, and graduate student Amanda Squillini (Stony Point/North Rockland) and senior Madelyn Czyz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) each caused two turnovers.

Senior Emma States (Phoenix/C.W. Baker) paced the Nazareth offense with three goals. Sophomores Grace Seither (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) and Makenna Misiurewicz (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) each netted a goal, and senior Maggie Vay (Rochester/Irondequoit) added an assist.

Sophomore Tori Henchen (Rochester/Greece Athena) started in goal for the Golden Flyers, making three saves in 19:27 before giving way to freshman Allie Klestinec (Geneva), who stopped five shots over the final 40:33. Senior Annie Rubel (Syracuse/West Genesee) secured four draws, junior Maggie Gannon (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) collected three ground balls and caused two turnover.
