Red Dragons Dominate Brockport, 17-7

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's lacrosse team scored the first four goals of the game before the midway point of the first quarter and cruised to a 17-7 victory versus Brockport Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Golden Eagles dropped to 3-8 and 1-3.

Senior Troy Morris (Long Beach) paced the Cortland offense with five goals and one assist. Seniors Dante Yacavone (Homer) and Austin Palmer (Hamburg/St. Francis) each notched three goals. Senior Jason Chiodo (Hamburg) tallied two goals and two assists, sophomore Ryan Smith (East Islip) recorded one goal and two assists, senior Tyler Starrett (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) contributed one goal and one assist, and sophomores Klay Stuver (Fairport) and Sam Rothman (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) added a goal. Sophomores Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius), Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) and Kole Stuver (Fairport) each chipped in with an assist.

Senior Matt Stento (Bethlehem) earned the start in goal for the Red Dragons, making eight saves in the first half. Junior Travis Wagner (Penfield) turned aside seven shots in 27:26, and sophomore Owen Folkwein (Avon, CT) made one save over the final 2:34. Sophomore Rich Finn (LaGrange/Arlington) won 15-of-23 faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls. Chiodo secured four ground balls, while senior Luke Morris (North Rockland) and junior Travis Moehringer (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) each scooped up three ground balls.

Sophomores Garrett Smith (Corning/Painted Post) and Mike O'Brien (Clarence) led Brockport with two goals each. Junior Carson Colucci (Oswego) tallied a goal and an assist, and senior Jhovanny Olivares (Minisink/Minisink Valley) and junior Ethan Barrett (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) netted one goal apiece. Four different players picked up an assist.

Senior goalie Cameron Kuzniar (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) registered 19 saves in 59:40. Senior Evan O'Connor (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) did not face a shot in 20 seconds of action. Senior Anthony McGee (Warwick/Warwick Valley) collected six ground balls and caused two turnovers, senior Chris Bock (Long Island/Sachem East) caused two turnovers and senior Ryan McCarthy (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills West) recorded three ground balls.
