Four Cortland Athletes Named to CSC Men's T&F/XC Academic All-District Team

SUNY Cortland seniors Hunter Brignall (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) and Ryan Cory (Beacon) and juniors Jean-Andre Sassine (Queens Village/The Lawrencville School (NJ)) and Nate Wilsoncroft (Horseheads) have been named to the 2023 Division III Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District team for District 3.

The team is selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. The district honorees are eligible for national Academic All-America consideration – those awards will be announced in June.

Brignall is a physical education major who entered the spring semester with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average. He earned All-Niagara Region honors and finished fifth in the SUNYAC this past spring in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, was seventh in the SUNYAC indoor 5,000-meter run and earned All-Niagara Region (31st place) and second team All-SUNYAC honors (ninth place) during cross country season last fall.

Cory, a sport management major, graduated this past December with a 3.93 overall GPA. During the 2022 cross country season he won races at Oswego, Roberts Wesleyan and Lehigh before suffering an injury that limited his performances at the SUNYAC and regional championships. Cory was a cross country All-American in 2021 with a 40th-place national finish and was the Niagara Region champion, and during the 2022 indoor track and field season he qualified for nationals in the 3,000-meter run.

Sassine is a communication studies major who began the spring semester with a 3.90 GPA. He earned all-region honors in the triple jump during the outdoor season, and during the indoor season he finished 12th nationally and was an all-region honoree in the event.

Wilsoncroft is a physical education major who entered the spring with a 3.81 GPA. He finished sixth in the SUNYAC in the 800-meter run during the outdoor season and was a member of the fifth-place Distance Medley Relay team during the indoor SUNYAC championships.
