GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo men's lacrosse team outscored Cortland, 9-4, over the final 30 minutes of the game and earned a 13-7 victory to capture the 2023 SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament championship Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons dropped to 13-5 with the loss, while the Knights improved to 15-4 and secured an automatic NCAA Div. III playoff berth.

Travis Wagner (Penfield) started in goal for Cortland, making 15 saves in 52:56. Senior 
Matt Stento (Bethlehem) stopped four shots in 5:12, and sophomore 
Owen Folkwein (Avon, CT) did not face a shot on goal in 1:52. Sophomore 
Owen Neubauer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won 6-of-12 faceoffs and scooped up three ground balls. Junior 
Travis Moehringer (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) caused three turnovers, seniors 
Dominick Natale (Homer) and 
Justin Wainwright (Homer) each finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers and Nagengast and freshman 
Dino Bowen (Yorktown) collected three ground balls.
William McCumiskey, Brady Sullivan and Jimmy Atkinson each netted four goals for Geneseo. Casey Fortunato added a goal, and Christian Marcello, Robert Boniello, Spencer Frank and Cole Bollin contributed one assist.
Goalie Mark Pav stopped 19 shots and secured five ground balls. BB Syrop won 13-of-23 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Trevor Bollinger caused three turnovers, and Ethan Cone finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Cortland opened a 3-0 lead on goals from Yacavone, Starrett and Nagengast, but Geneseo ran together four straight goals to close the half for a 4-3 lead. The Knights took control of the game with a 6-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter to build a 10-5 lead. The teams traded the final five goals of the fourth quarter for the 13-7 final.
