The Cortland football team is ranked 17th nationally in the D3football.com preseason poll.
The Red Dragons finished 9-2 last season and won their second straight Empire 8 title with a 6-0 record. Cortland went 9-1 in the regular season before losing at Randolph-Macon, 35-28, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Cortland opens the season at home versus 10th-ranked Delaware Valley University on Saturday, Sept. 2 at noon. Cortland's schedule also features a home non-league game against 22nd-ranked Susquehanna University on Sept. 16 and the annual Cortaca Jug rivalry game versus ninth-ranked Ithaca College on the road Nov. 11. The Red Dragons open Empire 8 play Sept. 30 at Morrisville and host 2022 NCAA qualifier Utica, the top "others receiving votes" team in the poll, in a league game Oct. 7.
