Junior women's tennis player Emma Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and senior football wide receiver JJ Laap (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) have been named the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 17.

Emma Madigan

Emma won both of her matches at fifth singles during the week. She opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over visiting Plattsburgh on Friday, and the following day she won 6-2, 6-2 against defending league champion New Paltz. Madigan also was 2-0 at third doubles, with Christina Massoni, with an 8-4 win vs. Plattsburgh and an 8-1 win against New Paltz.

JJ Laap

JJ caught five passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns in Cortland's 38-35 loss to 22nd-ranked Susquehanna. He caught an 80-yard TD pass on Cortland's first play from scrimmage as well as an 89-yard scoring catch in the second quarter.
