Cortland senior defender Alex Lessman (Plainview/Plainview-Old Bethpage) has been chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24.

Lessman anchored a Cortland defense that allowed just three shots on goal in a pair of victories last week. In a 4-0 home win versus Ithaca on Wednesday, the Bombers managed just three first-half shots on goal and none on goal in the second half. The streak of no shots on goal extended to 144 consecutive minutes when the nationally 24th-ranked Red Dragons defeated Fredonia, 7-0, on the road Saturday. Lessman played 169 of a possible 180 minutes in the two games.
 
Cortland (7-1-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) will host Potsdam Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Buffalo State Saturday at 1 p.m. in SUNYAC contests.
