CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior
Matt Shultz (Oneonta) recorded his second career hat trick to lead the nationally 10th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team to a 4-0 non-conference victory Wednesday night in its home opener at Holloway Field. The Red Dragons improved to 2-1 with the win. The Valiants dropped to 0-1-2.
Junior
Yasin Choukri (Wilton, CT) added a goal for Cortland. Senior
Jack Coleman (Newark Valley/Maine-Endwell) recorded three assists, while senior
Marco Cottone (Syosset) chipped in with one assist.
Sophomore goalie
Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) made two saves for the Red Dragons in recording his first career shutout at Cortland. Senior goalie Luis Granados (Pasadena, CA/St. Francis) registered 12 saves for Manhattanville, including several outstanding stops.
Shultz gave Cortland a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, collected a pass from Coleman on the left side and depositing a shot into the upper right. In the 20th minute, Cottone connected with Shultz on a long pass, and Shultz duplicated his first goal with a shot into the upper right.
Just 2:46 into the second half, Shultz completed the hat trick with a one-touch shot in the left of the box off a through ball from Coleman. Choukri concluded the scoring in the 71st minute with a shot inside the left post from the right side after accepting a pass from Coleman for the 4-0 final.
