BUFFALO, N.Y. –
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) recorded her fifth straight "double-double" with 17 points and 11 rebounds as Cortland earned a 68-46 road win at Buffalo State in a SUNYAC women's basketball contest.
Cortland (12-4, 8-1 SUNYAC) has won three straight games and eight of its last nine. Buffalo State fell to 3-11 overall and 0-7 in the league.
Streety made 6-of-8 field goals and all five of her free throws.
Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) and
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) each finished with nine points, with Tillotson also pulling down six rebounds.
Jackie Funk (Penfield) added eight points and six rebounds and
Lily Woodis (Dewittville/Chautauqua Lake) ended with eight points.
Abby Wilkinson (Cato/Bishop Grimes) led the Red Dragons with four assists and
Mariah Huss (Kenmore/Sacred Heart Academy) totaled six rebounds and three assists.
Maddy Stearns and Tashawni Cornfield each scored 10 points for the Bengals. Adiya Jones led the hosts with five rebounds and three assists.
Cortland led 19-10 after one quarter and built a 17-point lead at 33-16 on a Funk 3-pointer with three minutes left in the second quarter. Buffalo State, however, scored the last eight points of the period on a Jadyn Jones jumper and 3-pointers from Stearns and Emma Cohen and trailed by nine, 33-24, at halftime.
Cortland took control of the game in the opening minutes of the third quarter.
Kaeli McAnally (Islip) and Tillotson hit 3-pointers in the first two and a half minutes, followed by two Streety free throws at the 6:52 mark and another Tillotson 3-pointer with 5:54 left to give the Red Dragons a 44-24 lead. Cortland led 53-31 after three quarters and by at least 19 points the entire fourth quarter.
Cortland shot 33 percent from the floor but did make 11 3-pointers, including three by Tillotson and two each by Woodis and Funk. Buffalo State finished at 32 percent from the field and 6-of-14 (43 percent) from the 3-point arc. Stearns was 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
Cortland will host New Paltz Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
