OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego women's ice hockey team opened up a 2-0 lead after two periods and earned a 3-1 victory versus nationally 15th-ranked Cortland Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at Deborah Stanley Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 15-4-2 overall and 10-3-1 in the conference. The Lakers improved to 9-9-1 and 7-4-1.
Sophomore
Kayla Persinger (Lewsiton/Newark Ironbound) scored Cortland's goal with junior
Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) assisting. Junior goalie
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 22 saves.
Erika Parenti led Oswego with a goal and an assist. Rylee Preston and Rachel Corbett each added a goal, and Mack Hull, Simone Bednarik, Ashlyn McGrath and Kensie Malone picked up assists. Goalie Lexi Levy turned aside 29 shots.
Preston gave Oswego the lead at 13:38 of the opening period with a rebound goal. Parenti's power-play goal at 12:25 of the second period put the Lakers ahead, 2-0. Midway through the third period, Persinger cut Oswego's lead to 2-1 with her fifth goal of the season. Corbett, however, answered just 54 seconds later to give the Lakers back a two-goal lead. The Red Dragons pulled Goergen for an extra skater late in the third period, but the Lakers held on for the 3-1 victory.
