REXFORD, N.Y. – The Cortland women's golf team closed out its fall schedule by claiming the team title at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Fall Invitational, held at the Mohawk River Country Club.
The tournament was the second of two, one-day fall tournaments held by the conference. The NWGC Championship, which determines the league's NCAA automatic berth, will be held next April.
Cortland finished with a 339, six strokes ahead of Suffolk and 37 better than third-place Utica (376). Suffolk won the NWGC Fall Classic on Friday, with Cortland finishing second, and Suffolk is the defending conference champion.
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) and
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) tied for second out of 45 golfers, each with an 81 on the par-70 course. Suffolk's Krisna Mahendran was the medalist with an 80. Nazareth's Kayla Ringler tied for second with Rienzo and Milazzo.
Sophie Oristian (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) tied for eighth place with an 88,
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) placed 10th with an 89 and
Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) tied for 21st with a 100.
Rienzo finished with 10 pars and Milazzo carded a birdie and seven pars. Oristian birdied the par-5 11th hole, Dumas finished with six pars and Aguilar had a birdie on the par-4 14th.
