Cortland Men Break Two Pool Records, Win Team Title, at Snow Flurries Invitational

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished in first place out of four schools at the two-day Snow Flurries Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons Friday and Saturday at Holsten Pool.
 
Cortland finished with 1,423 points, followed by Oneonta with 1,013, Jamestown Community College with 335 and Potsdam with 283.
 
Cortland set two Holsten Pool records during the meet. Dylan Anselment (Glens Falls), during a time trial, broke the pool record in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.35 seconds, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central), Dom Fratto (Waterloo/Geneva), Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack) and Anselment set a pool record with its winning time of 1:25.26. Coincidentally, current Cortland head coach Brian Tobin was involved in both previous pool records - he held the 50-yard freestyle mark at 21.38 seconds and combined with Ryan Kendrick, Todd Krajewski and Brian Williams for the 200-yard freestyle relay mark in 1:25.58.
 
Anselment also won the official 50-yard freestyle race in 21.85 seconds. Michael Tomasino (Lake Grove/Sachem North) won both the 400-yard IM (4:39.18) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.35). Kazuki Kadota-Browner (Jericho) won 1-meter diving (503.63 points), Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) was the 500-yard freestyle winner (4:55.66) and Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) earned a win in the 100-yard butterfly (54.54). Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.75), Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) was the 1,650-yard freestyle winner (18:26.29) and Dickman won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.05).
 
Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) and Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) each turned in a pair of runner-up finishes - Clark in the 100-yard backstroke (56.32) and 100-yard freestyle (49.11) and Baxter in the 100-yard butterfly (55.23) and 200-yard butterfly (2:06.78). Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) was second in 1-meter diving (482.93 points).
 
Other second-place finishers included Fratto in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.72), Poli in the 200-yard IM (2:03.37), Conner Utter (Manassas, VA/Patriot) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.84), Zupko in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.89) and Sugrue-Neuendorf in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.47).
 
In addition to the 200-yard freestyle relay, Cortland was also victorious in the following relays:
 
200-yard medley relay: Poli, Sugrue-Neuendorf, Dickman, Anselment (1:36.70)
800-yard freestyle relay: Baxter, Ben Bierley (Penfield), Zupko, Rowlands (7:28.59)
400-yard medley relay: Fratto, Sugrue-Neuendorf, Dickman, Anselment (3:35.25)
400-yard freestyle relay: Sugrue-Neuendorf, Anselment, Dickman, Fratto (3:14.82)
 
Cortland also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Peter Brelesky (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), Trent deHaan (Greene/Greene Central), Nick Dambra (Brockport) and Rowlands finished in 3:19.70.
