POTSDAM, N.Y. – Five players scored goals and
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 19 saves for her fifth shutout of the season as nationally 15th-ranked Cortland blanked host Potsdam, 5-0, in a SUNYAC women's hockey matchup.
Cortland improved to 17-4-2 overall and 12-3-1 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons are currently tied for first with Plattsburgh, each at 26 points. Cortland has two regular-season games remaining, both at home versus Plattsburgh on Feb. 16-17, while Plattsburgh has four games left.
Cortland took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by
Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and
Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles U19).
Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside U22) extended the lead to 3-0 in the second, and
Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals 19UAAA) and
Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON/Ottawa Thunder Midget A) tallied goals in the final seven minutes. Hlasnick's and Donegan's goals came on power-play opportunities.
Bourgeois and Kopek each finished with a goal and an assist, while
Nicole Tulowiecki (Syracuse/Syracuse Nationals 19UAAA),
Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19),
Ellie Grinnals (Liverpool/Syracuse Valley Eagles 19UAA),
Molly McCabe (Webster/18UAA Webster),
Gillian Zwolak (Stoney Creek, ON/Ancaster Avalanche MAA) and
Kayla Persinger (Lewiston/Newark Ironbound 19UAAA) notched one assist each.
Elie Zurfluh made 31 saves for Potsdam, which dropped to 9-11-0 overall and 5-9-0 in the SUNYAC.
