Cortland Limits Plattsburgh to One Run in Doubleheader Sweep

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland's pitching allowed one run over 16 innings as the Red Dragons swept visiting Plattsburgh, 12-1 and 3-0, in a SUNYAC baseball doubleheader. The first game was called after seven innings due to the league's 10-run rule.
 
Cortland won for the eighth time in the last nine games and is now 12-8-1 overall and 6-0 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh dropped to 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the league.

 Matthew Nochowitz (Glen Head/North Shore) tossed six shutout innings for the victory, allowing five hits and two walks and striking out four. He's now 2-0 on the season. Cortland allowed an unearned run in the top of the seventh aided by a passed ball. Mikey Wandell (Newark Valley), the Red Dragons' second reliever, entered with runners on second and third and no outs and recorded two strikeouts, sandwiched around a Jack DeFayette RBI groundout, to finish the game.
 
Cortland finished with 14 hits. Nick Chemotti (Syracuse/West Genesee) went 3-for-3 with a double, sac fly and four RBI and Adam Mieczkowski (Vestal) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and two runs. Mat Bruno (Rye) homered and doubled and finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs and Mitchell Kelly (Webster/Webster Thomas) was 2-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs.
 
Chemotti doubled in two runs in the first to give Cortland an early lead. The Red Dragons put up four runs in the third on a Chemotti sac fly, a Mieczkowski two-run double and a Zachary Kringdon (Larchmont/Mamaroneck) RBI double. The lead grew to 12-0 in a six-run sixth inning that featured a Bruno two-run homer, a Chemotti run-scoring single, a Mieczkowski two-run double and a Nolan Smith (Hamburg) pinch-hit RBI single.
 
Plattsburgh starter Chris Santic gave up eight runs in five and two thirds innings. Aidan Diltz went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Luis Misla (Tampa, FL/Riverview), Ryan Banks (Woodbury/Syosset) and Cam Darrow (South Glens Falls) combined on a two-hit shutout. Misla tossed five no-hit innings with eight strikeouts and two walks to improve to 2-2 on the year. Banks walked two and struck out two and didn't allow a hit over an inning and a third. Darrow earned his first save after allowing two hits and fanning three over the final two and two thirds innings.
 
Plattsburgh broke up Cortland's combined no-hitter bid on Mike Rasquin's leadoff infield single to third in the eighth and Diltz singled with one out in the ninth.
 
Plattsburgh starter Andrew Veit held Cortland to two runs on eight hits in six and a third innings. He struck out six and walked three.
 
Cortland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Chris Bonacci (Syracuse/West Genesee) led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Bruno's RBI single. Bonacci also sparked a Cortland rally in the fifth with a one-out double. Chemotti walked and Bruno singled down the left field line to drive in Bonacci, with Plattsburgh throwing out Chemotti at third on the play.
 
Cortland added an insurance run in the eighth. Smith walked and pinch runner Lucas Barker (Ridgewood, NJ) went to third on a one-out Kelly single through the right side. Kringdon followed with an RBI single through the right side.
 
Mieczkowski finished 2-for-3 with a walk, Bruno went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Bonacci was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. Smith reached base three times on a hit and two walks.
