CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's lacrosse team outscored Brockport, 9-1, over the final 30 minutes in earning a 16-4 victory in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Grady Field. The Red Dragons improved to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Golden Eagles dropped to 7-5 and 4-2.
Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) and
Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) each totaled six points for Cortland. Hoeffner finished with four goals and two assists, while Janis tallied a goal and five assists.
Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) netted four goals,
Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) recorded two goals and an assist and
Ashley Melillo (Massapequa) scored a pair of goals.
Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake),
Isabella Dembinski (Holbrook/Sachem East) and
Emma Dempsey (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) each picked up a goal.

Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) stopped four shots for the Red Dragons. Melillo caused four turnovers, and Cashman,
Lexi Caron (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and
Julie Kadletz (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) each recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Cassidy Burnash paced Brockport's offense with three goals, and Hailey Lewkovich netted a goal. Goalie Arianna Reed made six saves and collected three ground balls. Alayna Foos scooped up four ground balls, Paige Thowe registered three ground balls and two caused turnovers and Sarah Kilburn won four draw controls.
Cortland held a 4-1 lead after the first quarter as four different players scored goals. The Red Dragons took a 7-3 lead into intermission as Cashman scored two of her goals during the second quarter.
Cortland grabbed control of the game with a seven-goal third-quarter burst to build a 14-3 advantage through 45 minutes of play. Cashman and Hoeffner each netted a pair of goals, while Janis picked up three of her assists. Burnash opened the fourth quarter with her third goal of the game before Hoeffner and Adams completed the scoring for the 16-4 final.
