CANTON, N.Y. – The Cortland women's golf team opened its 2024-25 season with a second-place finish at the St. Lawrence Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
The Red Dragons finished with a two-day score of 683. They were in third place after Saturday's action with a 343 and improved to a 340 on Sunday to edge third-place Union (339-350-689) by six strokes. Ithaca won the team title with a 654 (325-329). A total of seven teams competed.
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley), in her collegiate debut, finished second out of 39 golfers with a two-day score of 155. She scored a 79 on Saturday on the par-72 layout in a round with 12 pars and she carded a 76 on Sunday with four birdies. Union's Iyene Essien was the tournament medalist with a 151 (70-81). Milazzo finished two strokes ahead of St. Lawrence's Mary Grace McCann (77-80-157).
Sophie Oristian (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) finished 12th with a 173 (85-88) and
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) placed 18th with a 183 (92-91).
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) turned in a 19th-place score of 187 (102-85) and
Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) tied for 20th with a 188 (87-101).
