CORTLAND, N.Y. - Four Cortland players earned wins in both doubles and singles action as the Red Dragons defeated visiting St. John Fisher, 5-2, in a non-league women's tennis match at the Cortland Varsity Tennis Courts. Cortland improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Cortland earned the doubles team point by sweeping all three flights.
Christina Massoni (West Babylon) and
Emma Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) posted a 6-3 win at first doubles,
Mary Repass (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and
Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) were 6-2 winners at second doubles, and
Preston Fuerbacher (Fairport) and
Gabriella Stanley (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) won 6-2 at third doubles.

Massoni, Madigan, Fuerbacher and Stanley earned wins in singles play to secure the Red Dragon victory. Massoni won 6-1, 6-2 at the first flight and Madigan was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at number three. Fuerbacher earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles and Stanley won 6-1, 6-3 at number six.

Lilly Renzi and Grace Fisher posted singles victories for St. John Fisher (0-2). Renzi lost the first set at second singles to Repass, 6-1, but came back to win the second set, 6-1. With the team outcome already in hand, a super tie breaker to 10 points was played in lieu of a third set and Renzi won that, 10-3. Fisher recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Thut at fourth singles.

Cortland will play a scrimmage at St. Lawrence Sunday at noon and will officially return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with its SUNYAC opener at Oswego.
