Cortland Places 12th at Whitehill National Duals; Centrone Named to All-Tournament Team

Angelo Centrone was named to the all-tournament team at 149 pounds after finishing the weekend 5-0 with a pin and four technical falls
WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – The Cortland wrestling team finished in 12th place at the 16-team Budd Whitehill National Duals at Lycoming College. The Red Dragons (4-7) dropped decisions on Saturday to Lycoming, 35-22, and Wiliams, 49-5, in the 9-12 group matches.
 
Angelo Centrone (Mahopac) was named to the all-tournament team, which recognizes the top undefeated wrestler in each weight class at the tournament who earned the most team points per match in at least three matches. Centrone finished the weekend 5-0 with a pin and four technical falls for 26 team points (5.2 points per match). He is currently ranked fifth nationally in Division III at 149 pounds.
 
Cortland forfeited the 125 and 133-pound matches to trail 12-0 versus Lycoming. The Red Dragons won the next four to take a 22-12 lead - Rocco Futia (Wallkill) won by technical fall at 141, Centrone won by technical fall at 149, Justin Klein (Miller Place) pinned his opponent at 157 and Jack Pickersgill (Holtsville/Sachem East) won by pin at 165. Lycoming, however, recorded a technical fall and three pins in the final four matches.
 
Cortland's lone win versus Williams came at 149 when Centrone won by a 24-5 technical fall versus Caleb Seyfried, who is ranked fourth regionally in Region 1.
