Red Dragon Men Third at RPI Invite; Poli and Kohlhoff Post Individual Victories

Makiah Poli won the 100-yard IM and finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke
TROY, N.Y. - The Cortland men's swimming and diving team earned a third-place finish at the RPI Kumpf Invitational. Ithaca won the team title with 554 points, followed by RPI (501), Cortland (363), Skidmore (318) and Hobart (105).
 
Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) won the 100-yard individual medley in 54.54 seconds and finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.11. Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) was the champion in 1-meter diving with a score of 298.15 points, while Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) placed third with 231.20 points.
 
Dylan Anselment (Glens Falls) finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.24) and Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) was fourth in the 100-yard IM (56.28). Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) turned in a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (49.42).
 
Four Red Dragons posted sixth-place finishes - Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:21.64), Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack) in the 50-yard freestyle (22.60), Dom Fratto (Waterloo/Geneva) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.18) and Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.00).
 
The relays at the invitational were conducted as "mixed" relays with two men and two women on the same team, with both teams earning the points for the finish. In the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay, Anselment and Clark teamed with Alayna Miller (Hilton) and Erin Galligan (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) to finish in third place in 1:34.89.
 
Cortland will send competitors to the Hobart/William Smith Diving Invitational on Sunday, and the entire team returns to action next Friday, Jan. 24, when it hosts Oneonta at 4 p.m. for the final home meet of the season.
