Four Cortland Football Players Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Cortland senior kicker/punter Mike Baloga (New Windsor/Cornwall), senior defensive end Nick Lardaro (St. James/Smithtown East), junior defensive back Frankie Ciaramitaro (Huntington/Harborfields) and sophomore wide receiver Jayson Zeva (East Northport/St. John the Baptist) have been selected as 2024 Division III Football Academic All-District honorees for District 3.

The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.

Baloga is a physical education major who entered the fall semester with a 3.59 grade point average. He made 8-of-10 field goals and 67-of-69 PAT kicks for 91 points this past season. He also averaged 40.3 yards on 26 punts and 60.3 yards on 86 kickoffs with 32 touchbacks.

Lardaro is an adolescence education: mathematics major who began the fall semester with a 3.55 grade point average. He finished the season with 42 tackles, including 4.5 sacks and 11.5 total tackles for loss, along with five pass breakups, a forced fumble and 19 quarterback hurries.

Ciaramitaro, a junior academically and a sophomore athletically, entered the fall semester with a 3.66 grade point average. He finished the season with 37 tackles, an interception, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Zeva is a sport management major who started the fall semester with a 3.61 grade point average. He led the Red Dragons this past fall with 57 receptions and was second with 816 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

Cortland finished the season 11-1 overall. The Red Dragons were 10-0 in the regular season for just the third time in school history (1988 and 2021 previously) and, after earning a bye in the 40-team NCAA Division III playoffs, defeated Endicott in the second round before losing to Springfield in the third round to tie for ninth place. The 2023 national champion, Cortland had a 23-game winning streak snapped in the loss to Springfield.
