SEMIFINAL MATCHUP… Third-seeded Cortland will take on second-seeded Oswego in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament on Friday afternoon, hosted at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center in Binghamton, NY. In Friday's other semifinal, top-seeded New Paltz will face fourth-seeded Plattsburgh.Â
The Red Dragons enter the conference tournament with a 6-6 overall record (3-2 SUNYAC), while Oswego sports a 7-1 record (4-1 SUNYAC).
Cortland is 15-5 against Oswego in 20 matches dating back to 2007, but the last eight meetings of the sides have been evenly split at four apiece. Oswego has also been victorious in each of the past three matchups over the past two seasons.Â

The teams will be meeting in the SUNYAC Tournament for the second straight season, when Oswego came away with a 4-1 victory in the semifinals, with the Lakers and Red Dragons also entering the tournament as the second and third seeds, respectively.Â

Including this year, the Red Dragons have now reached the SUNYAC Tournament in each of the past five seasons. Cortland is looking for its eighth SUNYAC title, and first since 2005.Â

Oswego is in search of its first conference title all-time and is making its second consecutive tournament appearance after reaching the championship game in the spring of 2025. The conference adjusted its operating code to conduct the conference championship in the fall beginning this season, as opposed to competing the championship in the spring as in the past five years.Â
LAST TIME WE MET… Cortland battled in a number of matches but came up short in a 5-2 dual-match loss at Oswego in the last meeting of the sides on Oct. 1, 2025.

Oswego claimed two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 team lead. Isabella Eason and Kate Hayes won 6-1 at third doubles, and Avery Borman and Ashlyn Feneck outlastedÂ

Four of the six singles matches featured a set that was decided by a 7-6 score. Massoni won 6-4, 7-6 at second singles over Leah Bell, Borman defeated Schulz in three sets at first singles, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, Emily DeLuca won over Stanley at third singles, 7-6, 6-4, and Eason beat Thut at fourth singles, 6-2, 7-6. (tiebreaker scores currently not available)

THE CORTLAND CAPSULE… After suffering a setback at Hartwick to begin the season, the Red Dragons posted a dominant 7-0 win over Utica in the home opener, with

Mary Repass (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima),
Lisa Schulz,
Gabriella Stanley, and
Alexandra Thut all posting wins in singles and doubles.

Cortland split two non-conference road matches the following week, defeating St. John Fisher by a tight 4-3 scoreline and dropping a 5-2 decision at Geneseo. In the win over St. John Fisher, Massoni and Schulz both finished 2-0, while Repass and Thut earned crucial victories in singles to decide the match. Â
The Red Dragons opened SUNYAC play with a loss to New Paltz, but responded the following day with a 6-1 victory over Plattsburgh in which five different players posted wins in both singles and doubles.Â

Cortland also posted team victories over Fredonia and Oneonta in league play to secure the third seed in the conference tournament, winning via a 7-0 home sweep of Fredonia and by a 5-2 scoreline on the road at Oneonta.Â

The first doubles duo of
Lisa Schulz and
Christina Massoni has sported an 8-4 record for the year, including going 3-2 in conference play.
Anneli Adams and
Emma Morley (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) finished 3-3 as a third doubles pairing.Â

In singles action, Schulz has posted a 10-2 record between the first and second flights, including going 8-2 at first singles. Massoni finished the regular season with a 6-5 record in singles, and a 5-4 record in second singles.
Olivia Kirch went 3-2 in five matches at sixth singles, including a 2-0 record in conference action.
Gabriella Stanley recorded five wins at the third singles position, and
Mary Repass and
Alexandra Thut each registered 3-3 records at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.Â

ACE OF THE TEAM… Lisa Schulz finished the regular season with a 10-2 record in singles for a .833 winning percentage. Schultz's 8-2 record at first singles during the regular season is the best for a Red Dragon in the top flight since 2011, when Loraine Jelinek went 9-2 at first singles.

WINNING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM… The Red Dragons had a winning record in singles during conference play in five of the six flights, including a team-best 4-1 record at sixth singles from the combination of
Anneli Adams,
Olivia Kirch, and
Emma Morley.

AS A TEAM… Cortland completed the regular season with a .528 winning percentage in singles matches, posting a combined 38-34 record. The Red Dragons also went 18-12 in singles in league play, a .600 winning percentage.

SUNYAC WEEKLY WINNERS… The Red Dragons earned SUNYAC weekly awards six times during the regular season.
Lisa Schulz was named the SUNYAC Singles Athlete of the Week four times, and Schulz and
Christina Massoni were selected as the SUNYAC Doubles Team of the Week two times.Â
THE COMPETITION… Second-seeded Oswego posted a 39-9 record as a team during singles play for a winning percentage of .813 during the regular season, with six of seven players registering six singles wins or more. Emily DeLuca, Isabella Eason, and Kate Hayes each posted 7-1 singles records, while Sabrina Achki was 6-1 and Avery Borman and Leah Bell were each 6-2.Â

The Lakers were slightly less dominant in doubles matches, but still sported a .708 winning percentage by going 17-7. Borman and Achki were the most consistent duo for Oswego, posting a 6-1 record at second doubles. Hayes and Eason completed the regular season with a 6-2 record in the third doubles flight. Â Â

Top-seeded New Paltz is looking for its fourth consecutive SUNYAC title. The Hawks sported a 6-0 overall record, and swept conference play with a 5-0 record. New Paltz also did not drop a match in any of the six matches during the regular season.

Patrycja Filonik, Justine Stanejko, Lula Brown-Vann, Sydney Sladicka, and Sam Ostrander were all 5-0 in singles action during conference play, while Alex Krol went 4-0 in singles during SUNYAC action. Ostrander and Stanejko combined for a 5-0 record at first doubles, and Filonik and Olivia Kunz were 5-0 at second doubles.Â
Plattsburgh is the fourth seed in the conference tournament, and enters with a 4-4 overall record (2-3 SUNYAC). The Cardinals were defeated by each of the three other teams in the tournament during the regular season.Â
As a team, Plattsburgh posted a 23-25 record in singles matches, for an overall winning percentage of .479. Jacklin Mitchell was 4-4 at first singles, while Ava Carey posted a 4-4 record at second singles. The doubles team of Abigail Macdougal and Kristy Cantwell sported a 6-1 record during the regular season at third doubles, while Carey and Mitchell were 5-3 at first doubles.
