Jordan Ott Sets Career Shutouts Record, #9 Red Dragons Set Program Record With Seventh Straight Shutout, in 2-0 Win at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The nationally ninth-ranked Cortland soccer team registered its seventh straight shutout to set a program record and Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) set the career shutouts record in a 2-0 win at Plattsburgh in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons are now 7-1-3 (2-0-1 SUNYAC), while the Cardinals drop to 5-2-4 (0-2-1 SUNYAC) with the result.

Ott made 10 saves in goal for his eighth shutout of the year and 25th of his career, breaking a tie with Tim Beauvais, who had 24 from 2011-14. The Red Dragons have not conceded a goal in the last 639:44 of game action.

Owen Brant (Loudonville/Shaker) and Bruno Baez (White Plains/Iona Prep) both scored for the Red Dragons, with Aidan Miller (Savannah, GA/Richmond Hill) providing an assist.

Tristan Laundree and Xavier Kamba led Plattsburgh with three shots on goal apiece, while Santiago Vargas recorded two shots on goal. Matthew D'Ippolito stopped two shots in goal.

Ott was called into action early in the sixth minute to make a comfortable save on a low shot by Laundree.

In the seventh minute, Cortland took the lead as the result of strong pressing from Brant and a fortunate bounce. After a shot by the Red Dragons went wide, the Cardinals played a short goal kick out to a defender on the left. Brant forced a pass back to D'Ippolito, and then was able to sprint over and block the keeper's clearance attempt, with the pass bouncing off Brant and into the back of the net for Brant's second goal of the year.

Brandon da Costa (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) had a great chance to make it 2-0 in the 17th minute after a cross from Jake Hutter (Smithtown/Smithtown West), but D'Ippolito made a strong save to deny the freshman. Just seconds later, Hutter dribbled around a defender and fired a shot to the left corner of the net that was saved.

Ott made three more saves in the final 25 minutes of the first half, including a brilliant diving save to his right on Vargas in the 21st minute, to keep the Red Dragons' 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the 51st minute, Ott got down quickly to save a low shot by Kamba in a 1-on-1 situation after a through ball. On the following corner kick, Ott flipped the cross over the top of the crossbar for another save.

The Red Dragons doubled their advantage in the 64th minute. Miller stole the ball from a Plattsburgh midfielder and dribbled towards the 18-yard area. He then fired a low pass to the right side, where Baez took one step inside and curled a shot into the top left corner of the net for his first goal as a Red Dragon.

In the 88th minute, the Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick after a foul and subsequent red card on the Red Dragons. Vargas stepped up to take the penalty kick but was stopped by a lunging save from Ott to his left, his 10th and final save of the game to secure the shutout.
