Red Dragons Post Six Top-Five Finishes at Ned McGinley Invitational

Rocco Futia recorded a second-place finish at 133 pounds
WILKES-BARRE, PA – Colton Havens (Canisteo/Canisteo-Greenwood) won the 157-pound weight class, and the Red Dragons had five other top-5 finishes, as the Cortland wrestling team opened the 2025-26 season at the Ned McGinley Invitational, hosted by King's College on Saturday.

Cortland finished with 94 team points, seven points better than the US Merchant Marine Academy and 1.5 points behind Wilkes, to place sixth out of 12 teams. NYU won the team title with 160.5 points.

Havens finished 6-0 to claim his individual title in his first collegiate meet, including one pin, one technical fall, and two major decisions in his first four matches to advance to the semifinals. He earned a 4-1 decision over Marc Kleyman of Hunter in the semifinals, before defeating MJ Turi of King's with a takedown with 58 seconds remaining in the sudden-victory overtime period for a 4-1 scoreline in the finals.

Rocco Futia (Wallkill) finished second at 133 pounds with a 4-1 record for the day. He registered a pin and a major decision in his first two matches. After a victory by decision in the quarterfinals, he moved to the championship bout via a medical forfeit. The junior dropped a 14-10 decision to Jacob Venezia of NYU in the finals.

Christian Lievano (East Setauket/Ward Melville) and Dom Vinci (Spencerport) were both third place, at 125 pounds and 141 pounds, respectively. Lievano had a 3-1 record with one major decision, and Vinci was 3-1 with a pin and a technical fall.

Cade Sands (Addison/Addison Central) and David Ensminger (Clifton Park/Shenedehowa) rounded out Cortland's top finishers for the day with fourth-place finishes at 133 pounds and 141 pounds, respectively. Sands had two pins and a technical fall in his first three matches before a pair of medical forfeits ended his day. Ensminger also had his day end on a medical forfeit, but not before registering a pin and a technical fall.

Tristan Robinson-July (Ossining) was 3-2 with two pins at 165 pounds, and Shane Walczyk (Eden) also had two pins and a 3-2 record at 157 pounds.
