DECORAH, IOWA – Six Cortland wrestlers placed in the top eight of their weight class at the Luther College Open on Saturday.
 
The non-team scoring event featured a variety schools, ranging from Division I to junior college, from Iowa and other Midwest states. The tournament format included both "Elite" brackets for returning veterans and "Silver" brackets for first-year wrestlers.
 
Robby Cunningham (Miller Place) finished sixth in the 184-pound Elite division with a 5-1 record. After winning his first match and losing his second, Cunningham rattled off four straight wins - three by pin and one by major decision. He officially placed sixth after a no-contest in the fifth-place match as he had already reached his daily limit of six matches.
 
Colton Havens (Canisteo/Canisteo-Greenwood) finished sixth in the 157-pound Silver bracket and Brady Curry (Commack) placed sixth in the 184-pound Silver bracket, both with 3-2 records. Havens opened with a major decision, followed by a loss. He earned technical falls in his next two bouts and lost, 4-3, in the fifth-place match. Curry's three wins all came by pin - one to open the tournament and two more after his first loss. He dropped an 8-5 decision in the fifth-place match.
 
Jared Marine (Oceanside) went 3-2 to finish seventh in the 184-pound Silver bracket. He followed an opening loss with three consecutive wins, one by major decision and two by pin, before losing by injury default. He placed seventh after a no contest for both wrestlers in the seventh-place match.
 
Rocco Futia (Wallkill) earned an seventh-place finish in the 133-pound Elite bracket with a 4-2 record. After opening with a technical fall, he lost a 5-4 decision in the next round. He rattled off three straight wins, one by a major decision, before losing his next match. He finished seventh after a no contest for either wrestler in the seventh-place match.
 
Culley Bellino (Canastota) and Dom Vinci (Spencerport) each went 3-2 in the 141-pound Elite division, with Bellino recording a seventh-place finish, including all three of his wins via pin. Vinci earned a pin and a technical fall among his three victories.
