Cortland Defeats Oswego, 61-46, Behind Lusk's 25-Point Performance

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield) scored 18 of her game-high 25 points in the second half and led Cortland with nine rebounds as the Red Dragons opened SUNYAC play with a 61-46 win over visiting Oswego.
 
Cortland improved to 4-2 overall with the victory. The Red Dragons host Canton Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Lusk made 10-of-18 shots from the field, and her 25 points are the most she's scored in two seasons with the Red Dragons. She scored 26 points on two occasions as a freshman for St. John Fisher in the 2023-24 season.
 
Jackie Funk (Penfield) shot 6-of-11 from the floor and finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Sophie Bissaillon (East Greenbush/Columbia) ended with eight points and eight rebounds, Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) registered eight points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Kaeli McAnally (Islip) led Cortland with four assists.
 
Oswego (1-5, 0-1 SUNYAC) was led by Bri Weaver with 11 points and Giavanna White-Principio with 10 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Hoefs posted team highs of nine rebounds and five assists along with eight points, and Sarah Hirschler scored nine points and handed out three assists.
 
Cortland led 16-12 after a tight first quarter and slowly pulled away to a 31-19 halftime lead. The Red Dragons led by double figures the entire third quarter, but Oswego did cut an 18-point deficit to 11 points at 48-37 on a Weaver 3-pointer with 1:45 left in the period and got within 48-39 on a White-Principio layup 29 seconds into the fourth.
 
The Red Dragons responded with an 11-1 run, with all 11 points coming from Lusk, over the next four and a half minutes to take their largest lead of the night at 59-40 with 5:06 left to put the game away.
