Cortland Women Finish First at Snow Flurries Invitational

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished in first place out of five schools at the two-day Snow Flurries Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons Friday and Saturday at Holsten Pool.
 
Cortland finished with 1,189 points. Oneonta was the runner-up with 699 points, followed by New Paltz with 636 and Potsdam with 352. Delhi competed only on Saturday and ended with six points.
 
Ella Garrow (Peru) posted two individual victories over the weekend, winning the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.75) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.58). She also was second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.13). Tristinye Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) won the 400-yard IM (5:07.01) and placed second in the 200-yard IM (2:19.16), and Morgan Hannon (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.67) and was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.26).
 
Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) was the 200-yard backstroke winner (2:24.18), Emma Bouwens (Hilton) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.11), and Maura Nestler (Stormville/John Jay) posted a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:31.36). Alyssa Haberlack (Long Beach) won 3-meter diving (411.38 points) and was second in 1-meter diving (391.65 points), while Auttumn Ayakawa (Honolulu, HI/Coppell (TX)) won on the 1-meter board (414.30 points) and was second on the 3-meter board (401.25 points).
 
Five Red Dragons earned individual runner-up finishes: Ryann Redmond (Floral Park/Floral Park Memorial) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.36); Norah Eisnor (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.45); Peyton Glor (Tonawanda/Mount Saint Mary Academy) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.23); Emma Wilson (Red Hook) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:28.00); and Cassidy Torres (Brooklyn/H.S. for Health Professionals) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.86).
 
Cortland finished first in four relays:
 
200-yard medley relay - Glor, Torres, A. Martinez-Reyes, Erin Galligan (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) - 1:57.65
800-yard freestyle relay - Bouwens, Galligan, Hannon, T. Martinez-Reyes - 8:37.34
400-yard medley relay - Bouwens, Garrow, Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts), Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford) - 4:16.64
200-yard freestyle relay - Lynch, Eisnor, Galligan, Torres - 1:46.86
 
The Red Dragons are off from competition until Jan. 10 when they travel to New Paltz for a dual meet.
