Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Pair of Power-Play Goals Lead #15 Cortland to 3-2 Win at Fredonia

FREDONIA, NY – Colby Seitz (Eden/Corpus Christi Ice Rays) and Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders) each scored a power-play goal, as the nationally 15th-ranked Cortland men's hockey team used a strong performance on special teams to earn a 3-2 win at Fredonia on Saturday evening. Cortland has now won four straight contests overall and seven straight SUNYAC games, moving to 15-5 (8-1 SUNYAC) on the year. Fredonia falls to 7-13 (5-4 SUNYAC) with the defeat.

Nate Berke (Williamsville/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) led Cortland with a goal and an assist in the contest, and has seven points in the last four games. Settimo's goal was his 10th of the season, and Seitz scored his eighth goal of the year. Settimo also won 10-of-16 faceoffs.

Ronan Mobley (Playa Del Ray, CA/New Hampshire Avalanche) made 36 saves in goal. Justin Legault (Oakville, ON/Burlington Cougars) provided a pair of assists for the Red Dragons.

Both of Fredonia's goals were scored by Ryan Bailey and assisted by Antoine St. Onge. Charles-Anthony Barbeau made 26 saves for the Blue Devils.

Fredonia opened the scoring a little over eight minutes into the first period, as Mobley was able to stop St. Onge's initial shot saved but Bailey tapped in the rebound into the back of the net.

The shots on goal favored Fredonia in the first period, with the Blue Devils holding a slight 9-8 advantage.

Cortland got even just 38 seconds into the second period thanks to Berke's 14th goal of the year.  Sam Christiano (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) sent a pass from behind the goal line to the right circle to Legault, who sent a drop pass back to Berke for a one-timer into the corner of the net.

After a Fredonia penalty for tripping seven minutes into the period, Cortland took the lead on its first power-play goal of the game. Settimo took a pass from Johnny Facchini (Succasunna, NJ/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders) at the right point, skated to the right circle, and fired a wrist shot into the right side of the net. Legault had the secondary assist on the goal.

Just 21 seconds into the third period, Fredonia tied the score with Bailey's second goal of the game, a shot from the right side into the top left corner of the net.

A pair of Fredonia penalties near the midway point of the frame allowed Seitz to net the game-winning goal. Just after the expiration of the first penalty, Stephen Kyrkostas (Selden/Johnstown Tomahawks) won a faceoff at the right circle back out to Berke, who skated from the right point to the left and then slid a pass into the middle of ice. Seitz collected the puck, and snapped a wrist shot into the corner of the net.

Cortland committed a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct with 5:11 remaining, but the Red Dragons were able to successfully kill it off. Fredonia pulled Barbeau in the final minutes in an attempt to net an equalizer, but the Red Dragons were able to secure the victory.
