Seven minutes into the first period, Potsdam committed a cross checking penalty, giving the Red Dragons their first opportunity on a power play.
Although Cortland couldn't capitalize with the extra skater, Iwinski gave the Red Dragons the lead only 22 seconds after the completion of the penalty.
Grace Karakas (Duluth, MN/Duluth East) poke checked the puck in the Potsdam defensive zone to Drayson, who slid a pass over to Iwinski just above the right circle for a wrist shot into the top left corner of the net.
Late in the period, Cortland committed a holding penalty, but was able to net a short-handed goal in the final seconds to lead 2-0 at the intermission. Drayson stole the puck from a Potsdam defender at the blue line, skated in on a breakaway and deked the goaltender to the right for her third goal of the year.
Early in the second period, Mahoney scored her first goal of the game, as Persinger sent a breakout pass from the Cortland defensive zone down the right side to
Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles U19), who skated in on goal, and sent a drop pass to Mahoney for a wrist shot into the top left corner of the net.
Midway through the period, Goergen made a strong pad save on a breakaway attempt by Potsdam's Rylee Garrow, and the Bears also saw a shot in the final seconds of the frame go off of the left post, as the score stayed 3-0 after two periods.
Cortland added a pair of goals in the final seven minutes of the third period to secure the 5-0 win.
Iwinski started the play with a breakout pass down the left side to
Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden), who skated around two Potsdam defenders through the neutral zone, before feeding Mahoney for another goal for the sophomore. With just over a minute remaining,
Katie Diem (Fairport/Niagara University) chased down a loose puck behind the Potsdam goal and sent it over to Brown, who circled behind the net and back out to the right circle for a wrist shot into the top left corner for her second goal in the past two games to complete the scoring.
Goergen stopped seven shots in the third period, including a pair of attempts at close range for the Bears, to secure the shutout.
