Nick Jessen (Syracuse/West Genesee) has been named the SUNYAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Feb. 23.
Tierney batted .375 (6-for-16) with two doubles, a homer, three walks, seven RBI and six runs scored in a 2-2 week for Cortland at the D3 Showcase in Greensboro, N.C. He hit his first collegiate homer and drove in three runs in a 7-1 win over 11th-ranked Christopher Newport, was 3-for-4 with a double, two walks and an RBI in a 14-11 loss to #5 Denison and finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in an 11-4 win over Marietta. He also handled nine fielding chances at third base (seven assists, two putouts) without an error.
Jessen allowed three hits and one run with two strikeouts and two walks in six innings in the win over Christopher Newport.
Cortland (2-2) is ranked 15th nationally by D3baseball.com and 19th by the ABCA. The Red Dragons will travel to Shenandoah University in Virginia for games versus Immaculata, Wittenberg and Shenandoah at the Hornets' Mr. V Memorial Classic Saturday and Sunday.
