CORTLAND, NY - The Cortland wrestling team won each of the first six bouts, and cruised to a 33-7 victory on Senior Day in a dual against King's on Thursday at Corey Gymnasium. Cortland improved to 5-9 in duals, and 3-0 at home, while King's falls to 8-7.

The Red Dragons led 27-0 after six matches to secure the match victory. The Monarchs then won two consecutive bouts to close to within 27-7, before Cortland claimed two more wins to close out the dual.

Christian Lievano (East Setauket/Ward Melville) set the tone with a 14-11 decision at 125 pounds. After falling behind early after being taken down, Lievano responded with a takedown of his own. He jumped out ahead with a pair of takedowns in the third period, and held off a furious rally from his opponent in the final seconds to earn three team points.

Cody Merwin (Walton) followed with a 14-5 major decision at 133 pounds. The score was tied at 1-1 heading into the third period, before a flurry of 17 total points in the last period. Merwin began with a takedown and a near fall in the first 30 seconds of the period to take control of the bout.

Dom Vinci (Spencerport) made it 12-0 in favor of Cortland with a win by technical fall at 141 pounds. Leading 11-0 after the first period, Vinci jumped ahead 14-0 early in the second, and attempted to pin his opponent before taking the 18-0 win at the 4:19 mark.

Angelo Centrone (Mahopac) improved to 23-0 on the season with a dominant victory by pin at 149 pounds. Centrone needed just 46 seconds to secure the victory, his fifth pin of the season.

Justin Klein (Miller Place) followed with a pin of his own at 157 pounds, marking his sixth pin of the year. Klein completed the bout near the midway point of the second period at 3:50.

Joseph Visciano (Smithtown/Smithtown East) gave Cortland an insurmountable 27-0 lead with a come-from-behind 16-11 victory by decision at 165 pounds. Trailing 11-9 entering the third period, Visciano had a takedown just 10 seconds into the third period, and a near fall later in the period secured the comeback and the dual victory.

King's won the next two matches, one by major decision and another by a decision to make the score 27-7.
Wrestling up at 197 pounds,
Tymothey Murrell (Batavia) earned a 7-3 victory by decision for the Red Dragons. He had a takedown 1:00 into the first period, and another midway through the second period to lead 6-3 after two periods. Murrell had a one-point escape to begin the third period to secure the victory.

Seth Parker (Moravia) finished the dual with a 2-1 decision at 285 pounds. Parker went ahead 1-0 early in the second period after an escape and held a 1-0 edge into the third period. Starting the third period on top, Parker kept his opponent from escaping for nearly a minute and a half. Although his opponent escaped to tie the score at 1-1 with 30 seconds remaining, Parker secured a riding-time point at the conclusion for the victory.

Prior to the dual, Cortland went 2-0 in the extra matches.
Rocco Futia (Wallkill) had a victory by technical fall at 3:07, followed by a win by major decision by
Jack Pickersgill (Holtsville/Sachem East). Â
