Cortland Men Win at Fredonia, Dive at Alfred, to Close Regular Season

FREDONIA, N.Y. and ALFRED, N.Y. - The Cortland men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a 94-42 dual meet victory at Fredonia on Saturday, and the Red Dragons' divers competed Saturday at the Alfred University Diving Invitational.
 
Cortland won nine individual races and both relays at Fredonia, with some of the wins officially exhibitions due to the team score.
 
Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:27.27), Ben Bruning-Smith (Lockport/Starpoint) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.54) and Dylan Anselment (Glens Falls) took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (21.99).
 
Jack Pagel (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) took top honors in the 200-yard IM (2:11.31), Nick Dambra (Brockport) touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (56.02) and Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) was the 100-yard freestyle winner (50.40). As exhibition entries, Dom Fratto (Waterloo/Geneva) won the 100-yard backstroke (54.05), Lucas Gannon (Schenectady/Mohonasen) was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.37) and Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.11).
 
Cortland opened the day with a win by Fratto, Zack Kreiley (Dansville), Pagel and Peter Brelesky (Monroe-Monroe-Woodbury) in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.10). As an exhibition, the 200-yard freestyle relay of Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central), Michael Tomasino (Lake Grove/Sachem North), Monaco and Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack) finished first in 1:33.05.
 
At Alfred, Calvin Eggleston (Antwerp/Indian River), returning from a two and a half month hiatus due to injury, won the 1-meter event with a score of 427.75 points. It's his first time this season meeting the NCAA regional qualifying standard; he'll need to do that a second time to qualify for regionals. Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) finished second on both the 1-meter (417.90 points) and 3-meter (361.15 points) boards.
 
Cortland will compete in a combined championship with schools from the SUNYAC and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Feb. 19-22 at the Flickinger Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo. The conferences are holding a joint championship meet for the first time this season.
