WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – Three Cortland wrestlers are still alive, including two in the semifinals, after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Region 2 Wrestling Championships, hosted by Lycoming College. The regional concludes on Sunday and the top-three placewinners in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Sophomore
Rocco Futia (Wallkill) advanced to the semifinals at 133 pounds with a pin in 3:41 versus Joe Magnano of Pitt Bradford and a 17-2 technical fall in 5:34 against Alfred State's Elijah Moshenek. He will face Centenary's Daniel Haws in the semifinals on Sunday.
Junior
Angelo Centrone (Mahopac), ranked third nationally at 149 pounds, opened with a 13-3 major decision over TJ Martin of Penn College and won by a 21-5 technical fall in 5:43 against New Jersey City's Zack Vera. He will face Carmen Cortese of Stevens Institute in the semifinals on Sunday.
Sophomore
Robby Cunningham (Miller Place) is alive in the consolation bracket at 184 pounds after going 2-1 on Saturday. He won by a 17-1 technical fall in 3:36 versus Tim Pawlicki of Centenary, lost 8-0 to Eli Crum of Lycoming, and pinned Kiam Coleman of Brockport in 1:29. Cunningham begins action Sunday versus Christopher Nuss of Wilkes and needs to win three matches to finish in third place.
Seven Red Dragons were eliminated during Saturday's competition.
Junior
Dom Vinci (Spencerport) finished 1-2 at 141 pounds. After an opening loss, he pinned an opponent from Lycoming before losing his next match. Sophomore
Jack Pickersgill (Holtsville/Sachem East) posted a 1-2 record at 165 pounds. He opened with a pin against Wilkes before losing his next two matches. Freshman
Bryson Tibbs (Middletown) went 1-2 at 197 pounds, winning his opening match versus RIT by pin before dropping his next two bouts.

Christian Lievano (East Setauket/Ward Melville) finished 0-2 at 125 pounds, junior
Justin Klein (Miller Place) went 0-2 at 157 pounds, freshman
Gavin Seiler (Westwood, NJ/Westwood Regional) was 0-2 at 174 pounds and freshman
Seth Parker (Moravia) finished 0-2 at 285 pounds.
Cortland is 12th out of 19 schools in the team standings after Day 1 with 38 points. Stevens Institute leads with 91 points.
