Angelo Centrone Earns NWCA Academic Honor

Cortland junior Angelo Centrone (Mahopac) has been named a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American for the 2024-25 season. He earned the honor for the third straight year.

In order to be recognized, wrestlers must have an average GPA of 3.20 or better over the last two semesters or must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better. In addition, they must accomplish one of the following two things: 1) place in the top eight in an NCAA regional tournament; or 2) wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66 percent (not counting matches versus teammates).

The NCAA Division III runner-up at 149 pounds, Centrone finished the season 30-1 with five pins, 18 technical falls and one major decision. He was named the SUNYAC Championship and the NCAA Region 2 Championship Most Outstanding Wrestler. Centrone won 49 straight matches, dating back to the start of his sophomore season, before losing in the national championship match and through three seasons has a career record of 78-9.
