CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Cortland women's golf team finished in fourth place out of 10 teams at the Martin/Wallace Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons at the Cortland Country Club.
Cortland finished with a two-day score of 693 on the par-72 course, one stroke behind third-place Suffolk. The Red Dragons posted a 339 Saturday and a 354 Sunday. Ithaca won the team title with a 634 (332-302), followed by Union at 654 (330-324), Suffolk at 692 (352-340), Cortland, and St. Lawrence (372-375-747) in the top five.
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) led Cortland with a seventh-place score of 163 in a field of 51 golfers. Her 79 on Saturday included 11 pars and she finished with an 84 Sunday.
Sophie Oristian (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) tied for 13th place with a 168 (82-86). She had a birdie and seven pars on Saturday and two birdies on Sunday.
Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) tied for 18th place with a 180, carding a 90 each day.
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) tied for 23rd place with a 182 (88-94) and
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) placed 29th with a 193 (99-94). Ithaca's Rheanna DeCrow was tournament medalist with a 152, including an even-par 72 on Sunday, with Union's Iyene Essien finishing second with a 153 (78-75).
Cortland is next scheduled to compete April 26-27 at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Championship in Bloomfield, Conn. The NWGC champion earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
