Emma Madigan was honored for the third straight year as the SUNYAC's Women's Tennis Elite 20 Award winner for having the highest GPA at the league's championship site. She won her match at first singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Cortland Falls to Oswego, 4-1, in SUNYAC Tennis Semifinals

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The third-seeded Cortland women's tennis lost to second-seeded Oswego, 4-1, in the SUNYAC tournament semifinals at the Lane-Starke Tennis Club. Cortland closes the combined fall/spring season with a 6-5 record.
 
Oswego (13-1) will face top-seeded and two-time defending champion New Paltz in the finals Saturday at 1 p.m. New Paltz defeated Plattsburgh, 4-0, in Friday's other semifinal.
 
Oswego earned the doubles team point with wins on the first and second flight. Emma Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and Preston Fuerbacher (Fairport) battled at second doubles before falling, 7-5. The third doubles match was halted with Oswego leading 5-4 and is officially considered unfinished.
 
Madigan earned Cortland's team point with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of her opponent at first singles. Oswego's Avery Bowman and Leah Bell won in straight sets at second and third singles, respectively, and Isabella Eason on in straight sets at fifth singles.
 
The match was halted once Oswego reached four team points, and the remaining individual matches are recorded as unfinished. Hannah Green (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) split her first two sets at fourth singles, losing 6-4 in the first and winning 6-3 in the second. She trailed 1-0 in the third when play stopped. Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) was also in a tight match at sixth singles when play ended. She lost the first set 7-6, with a 7-4 tiebreaker, and was tied 3-3 in the second set.
 
Prior to the match, Madigan was recognized for the third straight year as the SUNYAC's Elite 20 Award Winner as the player at the SUNYAC finals site with the highest overall GPA. The senior psychology major has a 3.98 overall GPA entering the spring semester.
