Travis Wagner (Penfield) have been named the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 11.
Lainie Ornstein
Lainie was named SUNYAC Softball Tournament MVP after helping Cortland finish 3-0 and win its first league title since 2019. She finished 4-for-7 with two walks and four runs scored, including a key infield RBI single in an opening win vs. Oneonta, a 2-for-3 effort in a win over Buffalo State and a walk that started that Cortland's winning 4-run rally in the seventh in a 4-3 win over Oneonta in the championship round.
Nick Marola
Nick was chosen as SUNYAC Baseball Tournament MVP as Cortland went 3-0 and won its first league title since 2022. He opened the tournament by going 4-for-4 with a league tournament record four doubles in a win over Oneonta and he singled in a run and walked twice in the championship round versus Oneonta. He also handled 11 fielding chances (10 assists, one putout) at shortstop without an error.
Travis Wagner
Travis helped Cortland win two NCAA playoff games and advance to the national quarterfinals. He made 11 saves in a 23-8 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the second round and he stopped 12 shots and allowed six goals in a 10-6 win over host and nationally sixth-ranked York (Pa.) in the third round. After York scored seven seconds into the game, Wagner and the Red Dragon defense held the Spartans scoreless for 24-plus minutes while taking a 4-1 lead. Seven of his saves came during that stretch.
