Four Cortland Softball Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

Cortland softball senior outfielder/catcher Lainie Ornstein (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), senior pitcher/infielder McKenna Barry (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), junior infielder Shannon Scotto (Putnam Valley/Lakeland) and sophomore outfielder Kayla Pendergast (West Hempstead) have been named to the 2025 Division III Softball Academic All-District team for District 3. Ornstein and Scotto are repeat selections from last spring.
 
The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.
 
Ornstein is a physical education major with a 3.55 overall GPA after the spring semester. She played in 38 games this spring and batted .363 with 33 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. She was named to the All-SUNYAC first team and was the SUNYAC tournament MVP, and she closed her Cortland tenure ranked third in program history with 52 career steals.
 
Barry is a psychology major with a 3.56 overall GPA following the spring semester. She was named to the all-region second team and All-SUNYAC first team after posting an 11-6 record with a 2.80 ERA in 23 starts and batting .329 with two homers and 23 RBI. Barry ranks third at Cortland with 43 career doubles.
 
Scotto is a physical education major with a 3.52 overall GPA after the spring. She started all 41 games this spring, primarily at first base, and registered seven doubles and 25 RBI.
 
Pendergast is an adolescence education: biology major with a 3.52 overall GPA after the spring semester. She played in 40 games, 35 as a starter, and batted .295 with a homer, triple and 17 runs scored.
 
Cortland finished the season with a 25-16 record, including a 21-4 mark over its final 25 games. Cortland won both the SUNYAC regular-season and tournament titles and finished second with a 2-2 record at a four-team NCAA regional hosted by Rowan University to tie for 17th place nationally.
