Cortland two-time All-American midfielder
Mateo Marra (Ossining) has signed a professional contract with Montevideo Wanderers Fútbol Club of the Uruguayan Primera División.
Marra finished his career as the second-leading scorer in program history, tallying 92 points on 33 goals and 26 assists across 59 games played as a Red Dragon. He also netted 11 game-winning goals, and was 8-for-8 on penalty-kick attempts in his three-year career at Cortland.
Marra repeated as a first team All-America honoree in 2024, becoming just the fifth player in program history to be named an All-American in multiple seasons. He appeared in 18 games for Cortland, finishing second on the team with 32 points on 13 goals and six assists, and tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals.
Marra was a standout for Cortland in its run to a second consecutive SUNYAC title last fall, scoring four goals and adding an assist over three games in the conference tournament to earn SUNYAC All-Tournament Team and MVP honors. He was also named to the all-region first team and to the All-SUNYAC first team for the third year in a row.
Montevideo Wanderers F.C. plays its home matches at Parque Alfredo Víctor Viera in Uruguay's capital city of Montevideo. The squad played its second of seven intermediate round matches on Sunday, a 2-1 win over Cerro, and will be back in action on Saturday, June 7 against Plaza Colonia.
