Chris Bonacci (Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomore first baseman
Nolan Smith (Hamburg) have been selected to the 2025 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) NCAA Division III Region 3 All-Defensive Team.
Bonacci earned the honor for the third straight year, while Smith is a first-time honoree.
Bonacci started 42 games in center field this past spring and did not commit any errors in 68 total fielding chances (67 putouts, one assist). During five years with the Red Dragons from 2021-25, Bonacci posted a career .991 fielding percentage with 332 putouts, 12 assists and just three errors.
Smith appeared in 43 games, 38 as a starter, and did not commit any errors in 271 fielding chances (251 putouts, 20 assists). Through two seasons at Cortland, Smith has a career .996 fielding percentage with only two errors in 488 total chances (453 putouts, 33 assists).
Cortland finished the season with a 31-13 record, including a 15-3 mark to win the SUNYAC regular-season title. The Red Dragons also won the SUNYAC tournament crown, extended their Division III record to 32 straight NCAA tournament appearances, and finished in second at the Union, N.J., regional with a 2-2 record to tie for 17th place nationally.
