Nolan Smith and Matthew Nochowitz Earn CSC Baseball Academic All-District Honors

Cortland sophomore first baseman Nolan Smith (Hamburg) and sophomore pitcher Matthew Nochowitz (Glen Head/North Shore) have been named to the 2025 Division III Baseball Academic All-District team for District 3.
 
The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.
 
Smith is a psychology major who completed the spring semester with a 3.76 overall GPA. The SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year, Smith did not commit any errors in 271 fielding chances and batted .340 with 12 doubles, two triples, two homers, 33 RBI, 26 walks and 26 runs scored in 43 games.
 
Nochowitz is a sport management major with a 3.57 overall GPA following the spring semester. An all-region and All-SUNYAC selection, Nochowitz made 13 appearances, eight as a starter, and finished the year with a 5-0 record, one save, a 3.80 ERA, 46 hits allowed and 59 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched.
 
Cortland finished the season with a 31-13 record, including a 15-3 mark to win the SUNYAC regular-season title. The Red Dragons also won the SUNYAC tournament crown, extended their Division III record to 32 straight NCAA tournament appearances, and finished in second at the Union, N.J., regional with a 2-2 record to tie for 17th place nationally.
