Cortland All-America senior pitcher
Luis Misla (Tampa, FL/Riverview) has signed to play in the MLB Draft League this July through September.
Â
The MLB Draft League is a six-team baseball league featuring a split-season amateur-professional format. The second half of the league schedule, which Misla has signed on for, runs from July 16-Sept. 3 and features paid players who have exhausted their amateur eligibility and who receive weekly compensation, along with housing, meal money and travel, while competing in a 46-game schedule.
Â
Since its inception in 2021, the MLB Draft League has produced 185 MLB Draft picks, and 12 players from the professional half of the 2022-24 seasons have had their contracts purchased by a Major League organization. The six MLB Draft League teams - the Mahoning Valley (Ohio) Scrappers, the State College (Pa.) Spikes, the West Virginia Black Bears, the Williamsport (Pa.) Crosscutters, the Trenton (N.J.) Thunder and the Frederick (Md.) Keys - are former Minor League affiliates, and all games are played in former Minor League stadiums. It has not been determined yet which team Misla will compete for. (UPDATE 7/7/25: Misla was assigned to the Trenton Thunder in Trenton, N.J.)
Â
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Luis after an outstanding two-year career at Cortland," said Red Dragon head coach
Joe Brown. "We're very grateful to the MLB Draft League for providing this opportunity, which adds to the list of more than 30 Cortland players who have competed professionally."
Â
Misla was named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III first team All-American and a D3baseball.com second team All-American for the 2025 season. He was an All-American for the second straight year, earning D3baseball.com second team and ABCA third team honors in 2024. Misla has also been both the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Year and both the D3baseball.com and ABCA Region 3 Pitcher of the Year in both 2024 and 2025.
Â
This past spring, Misla started 12 games and finished 9-3 with a 2.03 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He struck out a school single-season record 115 batters in 71 innings and allowed only 51 hits and 24 walks. Misla struck out a school single-game record 19 batters in a win at Plattsburgh and 16 batters in a home victory over New Paltz, and he recorded 10 or more strikeouts in four other contests.
Â

He struck out a then-school record 114 batters in 2024 before breaking that mark in 2025. Misla is tied for third at Cortland in career strikeouts despite playing only two seasons. He came to Cortland from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., where he was a combined 12-2 with 169 strikeouts in 93 and two thirds innings over two seasons. Misla has also been a New England Collegiate Baseball League all-star in 2023 and a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League all-star in 2022.

The Red Dragons also won the SUNYAC tournament crown, extended their Division III record to 32 straight NCAA tournament appearances, and finished in second at the Union, N.J., regional with a 2-2 record to tie for 17th place nationally.
