Cortland senior shortstop Nick Marola (Saratoga/Scotia-Glenville) has signed to play professionally with the Brockton Rox of the Frontier League.

Marola batted .304 this spring with seven homers, nine doubles, 16 walks, 28 RBI and 27 runs scored in 40 games, 38 as a starter. In his two seasons at Cortland, Marola played in 81 games, 76 as a starter, and batted .278 with 11 homers, 17 doubles, a triple, 27 walks, 53 RBI and 50 runs scored.

Marola earned second team All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honors and was chosen as the SUNYAC Tournament MVP. He set a SUNYAC tournament single-game record with four doubles in the tournament's opening round versus Oneonta. He also earned SUNYAC All-Tournament Team honors in 2024.

Marola previously played in 2020 and 2021 at UMass Lowell - about an hour's drive from Brockton - and he competed in three games at Coker University in South Carolina in 2023.

The Frontier League, an independent baseball league and official partner of Major League Baseball, consists of 18 teams - nine in the Atlantic Division, including Brockton, and nine in the Midwest Division. The league regular-season schedule runs from early May until the end of August, followed by postseason playoffs in September.

Cortland finished the season with a 31-13 record, including a 15-3 mark to win the SUNYAC regular-season title. The Red Dragons also won the SUNYAC tournament crown, extended their Division III record to 32 straight NCAA tournament appearances, and finished in second at the Union, N.J., regional with a 2-2 record to tie for 17th place nationally.
